Bluebird Café Scout Discovers Two Charlotte SongwritersFor Immediate Release: Barbara Cloyd, talent scout at Nashville's famous Bluebird Café, selected two Charlotte songwriters for her September songwriting workshop in Bristol, Tennessee. Brian Hartzog and Don Petty, both independent songwriters from Charlotte, will be among the select group of artists spending a full weekend with Nashville's top music publishers as part of Cloyd's Songwriter Search Workshop. Songwriter Search Workshops are designed to help Nashville publishers connect with talented writers outside of Nashville. Barbara works with established, successful music industry professionals who have a passion for discovering new talent and who believe that looking beyond the Nashville scene can be a way find writers with a fresh, unique approach. Brian Hartzog and Don Petty were among the 20 songwriters chosen to attend. Applicants submitted three songs to Ms. Cloyd, who judged them based on creativity, individuality, and craftsmanship. As booking agent for the Bluebird Café's open mics, Cloyd sees hundreds of performers a year. Brian Hartzog, an independent songwriter/performer, creates "funk and roll" music. His songs are a unique blend of classic rock (Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and David Bowie) and funk (Prince, Parliament, and James Brown). Hartzog was selected based on three songs he wrote and recorded at his home studio here in Charlotte. The songs will be available on his second CD, One-Way Ticket, and can be currently heard on his website (http://www.brianhartzog.com). Charlotte native Don Petty's music is described as high-energy, guitar-based country with an emphasis on fun. Don was selected based on songs from his latest project called Space Plowboy.
