Borders Stonecrest Presents “New NC Folk” in the March Charlotte Songwriter Showcase

On Saturday, March 27th at 3 p.m., Borders Books and Music at Stonecrest will host its sixth monthly songwriter showcase. This month’s theme is “New NC Folk Music”. The event will feature live performances by Pam and PJ, Steve Simpson, and Randy Flack—three of NC’s finest unsigned folk performing acts. The event highlights Border’s commitment to supporting NSAI and local music and is the third consecutive monthly event featuring a veteran of Nashville’s famed Bluebird Cafe. This month’s event actually features two BlueBird performers: Steve Simpson and Randy Flack.

Pam & PJ

Don't miss this high-energy female duo performing an eclectic blend of favorites and finely-crafted originals, played on two acoustic guitars with tight vocal harmonies. Charlotte singer-songwriter PJ Brunson has gained national and regional attention with her songs, her voice, and her fingerstyle guitar playing. She has toured the Southeast and opened for the likes of Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett, Peter Finger, and the Charlotte Pops. Pamela Dale, one of the Southeast’s most talented recording artists, is taking the Carolinas and surrounding area by storm. This talented singer/songwriter's career is highlighted by opening for such renowned recording artists as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Vern Gosdin, Lyle Lovett, and Nanci Griffith. Together again after 10 years, Pam & PJ are joining efforts for an exciting reunion, with some of the best acoustic music you've ever heard.

Steve Simpson

A favorite on the Charlotte music scene, Steve Simpson's songs are sometimes funny, sometimes touching, but they are always designed to make you feel something. Steve has performed at The Evening Muse, The Tosco Music Party, The Bluebird Cafe and many other venues. He won first place in the open mic contest at the Music Row to Charlotte event in 2001, second place in the songwriting contest at the Suwannee Springfest Music Festival in 2002, and was a finalist in the NSAI/WKKT open mic contest in 2003. Steve has been an active member of Nashville Songwriters Association International since 1997, and will be assuming the role of co-coordinator of the Charlotte group in April 2004.

Randy Flack

Randy Flack is a singer/songwriter from Asheville, NC: he's been performing since high school, with equal skills and flair in rock and country music. An accomplished musician and a great story teller, his songs tell of loves gone right, loves gone wrong, growing up in the Great Smokies, fried chicken, getting "Schlitz faced", Ireland, and countless other topics. Randy is currently working on his third album of original material and travels the Southeast playing and entertaining. He frequently plays the Bluebird Cafe, the Gibson Guitar Cafe, the Broken Spoke, and other legendary Nashville songwriter venues.
