NSAI Charlotte Songwriter Showcase in October

On Saturday, October 25th at 3 p.m., Borders Books and Music at Stonecrest will begin a monthly songwriter showcase. Each event will feature live performances by select songwriters, chosen by the Charlotte chapter of the Nashville Songwriter’s Association International (NSAI). The events highlight Border’s commitment to supporting local music. Showcases will be held the third Saturday of each month at 3 p.m. at the Borders store at Stonecrest.

The October 25 show features the following three performers:

RUDY CURRENCE: A classically trained, genre-transcending artist with a soaring vocal style, Rudy is a star in the making, with songs in "The Bourne Identity" and the upcoming hip-hop movie "Move the Crowd", as well as 2 tracks on R&B artist Mya's new album "Moodring". His own CD, "More Than You'll Ever Know," was released in August 2002.

RICK SPREITZER: Rick's thoughtful Americana songs, steeped in common tones, avoid the lyrical middle road. Wry, bittersweet, accessible and uniquely voiced, his songs have a depth that's rare in contemporary songwriters and have gained him a significant area following. His first CD, MEANDERTHAL, was released in 2002.

ALLAN KAPLAN: A veteran of the Charlotte music scene, Allan has performed with bands Southwind, Intensive Care, and Invisible Walk and has played many of the area's best-known venues. His influences include the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, and Tom Petty. An assured musician and writer, he is master of a complex, sometimes mystical folk-rock style.
