Scorchers Gig on 5/19/2004

Date: Wednesday, April 19, 2004
Location: Scorchers in Mooresville, North Carolina
Performers: Brian Hartzog, Robert Webster
Attendance: About 20

Well, I haven't had a PA since I sold my 200 lb one a few months ago. Tracey and I were moving, and I didn't think I'd need one that big anymore. Of course, I'm still trying to save up enough of my music money to by a newer, smaller PA system that I can use for gigs like this one at Scorcher's. Luckily, that's where it pays to have musician buddies like Robert Webster.

Webster agreed join me for the night and to supply the PA for the gig--and, man, was it cool. It's a Bose system that looks a bit like the bottom 5 feet of a basketball goal. The base is about the size of a home plate you'd see on a baseball field, and the "pole" part is actually made up of two three-foot long speakers that connect and plug into the base. It comes with a small (but powerful) subwoofer that fits under a table. The whole thing is light weight and sounds fantastic. It fits in two tent pole-sized bags! I HAVE TO HAVE ONE!!!!

Anyway, Webster opened the show with a barrage of original tunes and cover songs. He managed to dodge the rain AND the drunken interjections of the booking agent/manager that showed up to tell us how important she was...and what she knew about country music...before she stumbled off to her car. (Nice!) Robert weathered both of these storms well, and ended his set by entertaining the small audience's requests. Good stuff!

By the time I went on, the place had pretty much cleared out, but I still managed to connect with a couple of folks that were left. Although the bar staff was a bit ready to go home, I bought the entire place a drink (I've always wanted to do that)...and played about a hour of songs off of my new CD...in the end, I met a couple of new fans and got the skinny on where to play in Mooresville next time...Apparently, you see, all of the bikers went to Vinnie's this week...

Listen to Brian's music now!
